Volvo teases new V90 Cross Country! [+video]

Volvo’s Cross Country variants started nearly 20 years ago, with the introduction of the V70 XC in 1997. The range proved to be successful, and Volvo released Cross Country variants of the V40 and later the XC90.

According to Volvo, the Cross Country is a popular choice for those seeking a premium estate that’s capable, yet offers comfortable driving experience. Volvo Cross Country models are capable of performing in various weather conditions, including muddy tracks and knee-deep snow to long distance highway driving.

We were very careful from the very beginning to ensure that the Cross Country concept was not just an exercise in rugged styling. We placed high demands on real-world capability, and as we developed the segment we added the comfort and convenience elements that Volvo drivers have come to expect,” said Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Car Group.

When it is unveiled later this month, the Volvo V90 Cross Country will carry over the engines and transmissions from its sedan sibling. Being a Cross Country variant, the new model will benefit from all-wheel drive system. In addition to the all-wheel drive system, the Volvo V90 Cross Country variant will benefit from various body cladding, including a front cladding that allows the Volvo to take some beating off-road.
