A couple of weeks back, news site in Australia posted photos of a mysterious taped up SUV being unloaded off a transporter.

Due to the vehicle’s heavy camouflage and military-styled decals, it was really hard to pinpoint the exact make of the so-called SUV. Some reckoned that the mysterious model could be some Chinese SUV under wraps.

It was later discovered that the mysterious SUV is in fact part of Volkswagen Australia’s new marketing campaign that highlights the company’s new Amarok 3.0-litre V6. Output figures are 224 hp and 550 Nm.

Called the Korama (Amarok backwards), it was designed by the same person that was in charged of the post-apocalyptic vehicles in Mad Max: Fury Road.

The team took five weeks to design a bodyshell that could fit over the Amarok’s platform, after which Volkswagen Australia gave several professional drivers a chance to sample it.

Could the Amarok be offered here in the near future? Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia hasn’t ruled out the possibility of that yet. The new diesel engine, we reckon, could give some pickup trucks in Malaysia a run for their money.
