Strange large SUV spied on the road, what could it be?

Spotted doing rounds in Los Angeles, Mashable posted photos of this mysterious large-sized SUV. Even more interesting is the emblem, which does not resemble any car manufacturers of today.

Curiously, the spied SUV here does not sport any form of camouflage, which is what we are used to on prototype vehicles.

However, looking closely at these SUVs shed some clues. The rear end of the red SUV looks very much like a Volkswagen, despite looking like a Chinese Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT clone. The recess around the license plate has a VW vibe to it too.

Moving to the front, the haphazardly-placed front grille definitely looks out of the place. The bottom half of the bumper also sports some weird bulges, presumably to disguise the actual car’s lines. The headlights, despite being halogen multi-reflectors, looks oddly VW-ish.

Well, what we can deduce from these set of photos is that Volkswagen is working on a large-sized seven-seater SUV based on the CrossBlue concept. Mashable also added that Volkswagen is one of the few car makers to register test vehicles in Arizona, evident from the plates these SUVs were wearing.

The Volkswagen CrossBlue concept SUV is seven-seater large SUV that sits on the Volkswagen MQB platform, and is likely to feature a plug-in hybrid option. Other engine choices include a 2.0-litre turbodiesel. Volkswagen is said to assemble the new CrossBlue SUV at the Chattanooga plant in Tennessee.
