Proton presents eight of its cars to Olympic medalists of Rio 2016

Proton has presented several units of their models to the Malaysian Olympic team at the recent Rio Olympic Games as appreciation. A total of eight cars were handed out to the athletes.

Present at the handover was Minister of Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Encik Khairy Jamaluddin, accompanied by Chef de-Mission of the Malaysian Olympic contingent, Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei was presented a Proton Perdana 2.4 for his achievements as the most successful Malaysian Olympian in history with a total of three silver medals. His first silver medal was achieved at the 2008 Beijing Olympics followed by the second silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. He recently achieved a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Other silver winners,  Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong (Women’s Synchronised 10m Platform diving), Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying (Badminton Mixed Doubles), and Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong (Badminton Men’s Doubles) were each presented with a Proton Suprima S Premium.

Azizulhasni Awang, the first Malaysian cyclist to win a medal at the Olympics received the all-new Proton Persona for his bronze achievement.

In this auspicious month of Merdeka as well as in celebration of the forthcoming Malaysia Day, we are truly inspired by these Malaysians who fought for our glory at the recent Rio 2016 Olympics. In appreciation of their sacrifices for the country, we are extremely honoured to present the national cars to our athletes to celebrate their achievements at the highest level such as the Olympics,” said Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM and Chairman of PROTON.
