The Mercedes-AMG GT is the second performance coupe that Mercedes-AMG has developed. The first model from Mercedes-AMG was the legendary SLS-AMG. The second performance model from Mercedes-AMG made a global debut in September 2014, with two available variants. The GT variant has 468 hp at 6,000 rpm and 600 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm till 5,000 rpm, while the hotter GT S variant has 503 hp at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm till 6,250 rpm. The Mercedes-AMG GT S tips the scale at 1,570 kg.

Powering both variants is a Mercedes-AMG’s new 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 codenamed M178. Like the SLS-AMG, the powertrain features a transaxle layout, with the engine sitting up front in a mid-mounted configuration, with power going to the rear axle via transaxle seven speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The GT S variant benefits from a factory-installed electronically controlled mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD). Mercedes-AMG claims that the AMG GT S can hit 100 km/h from standstill in just 3.8 seconds, and top speed is a blistering 310 km/h.

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT S sports an aviation design theme, with the dashboard creating an impression of a large powerful wing. The four centre spotlight-styled air vents and large centre console adds to the already premium touch of the AMG GT S’s interior.

Aimed at the Porsche 911, the Mercedes-AMG GT S shares its aluminium structure with the SLS AMG, as well as its hydraulic power steering and front suspension set up. Mercedes-AMG says that the new AMG GT S is 4,546 mm long, 1,939 mm wide and 1,289 mm. Width is identical to the SLS AMG, but the AMG GT S is 92 mm shorter and 37 mm taller. Despite the hefty V8 up front, the AMG GT S actually boasts a weight distribution of 47:53, with the bulk of the weight going to the rear.
