PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, together with their partner PT Toyota Astra Motor have unveiled the Daihatsu Sigra and Toyota Calya respectively in Indonesia recently.
Both these MPVs are made by Daihatsu at the Kerawang plant. Underpinning this pair of MPVs is the Daihatsu Agya and Toyota Ayla platform, as known as the Perodua Axia to us here. The new MPV duo is aimed primarily for the Indonesian market, which is categorized under the Indonesian government’s Low Cost and Green Car (LCGC) segment, allowing the MPVs to benefit from lower tax.
Being a low cost MPV, the feature list is quite sparse, as the Toyota Calya gets immobilizer, three point seat belts all round, seat belt reminder for the driver and front disc brakes. ABS is only present on the Type E and G.
Indonesians are expected to pay between IDR 106 to 149 million for the Daihatsu Sigra, and IDR 130 to 150 million for the Toyota Calya. The Sigra also gets a choice of two engines, namely a 1.0-litre VVT-i and a 1.2-litre Dual-VVT-i. The Calya, on the other hand, can only be had with a 1.2-litre engine.
In case you’re wondering, the Calya and Sigra is part of the “family” for Toyota’s range of compact vehicles, which already includes the Agya and Ayla. Our Perodua Bezza, which is developed from the Axia’s platform, is also considered part of the extended family.
