The BMW 530e iPerformance

After the launch of the new 5 series here in Malaysia, BMW has announced the 530e iPerformance the plug-in hybrid for the G30 series. Similarly, with the 3 series, the 5 series now enjoys a plug-in hybrid. With the recent announcement from BMW Malaysia, it seems that BMW is also moving towards plug-in hybrids especially since Malaysia does enjoy the tax benefits if the car is assembled here.

In terms of power output, the BMW eDrive electric motor produces 113hp and 250Nm of torque which is of course paired with a 4-cylinder 2.0L engine which produces 184hp and 320Nm of torque. Combined they push out 252hp and 420Nm in harmonious synchrony. This allows a heavy G30 achieve the century sprint in 6.2 seconds. Max speed is limited to 235kmh. The electric motor

The electric motor has a 50km range on pure electric power at a maximum speed of 140kmh. Both the electric and combustion engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission which doesn’t utilise a torque converter.

Overall, it is a good alternative to the other models and if they do assemble it here in Malaysia, we might expect a hefty price decrease.
