Making a global debut some time last year, the all-new Renault Megane promises to be a big improvement over its predecessor, hoping to challenge the popular Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.

Thanks to our friend Daniel, we now have an exclusive first look at the Renault Megane, though down south in Australia.

This particular variant is the range-topping GT, which packs the Renault Sport suspension tuning, multi-downshift gear change system, column mounted paddle shifters, R.S. Drive Mode, Renault’s 4 wheel steering called 4CONTROL, launch control, bespoke GT brakes, aluminium brake and accelerator pedals, blue and black Alcantara upholstery, Renault Sport GT treatment on the front bumper and rear diffuser, 18-inch Magny-Cours alloy wheels and Renault Sport emblems as standard fitment. Optionally, customers in Australia can opt to have metallic paint, electric sunroof and the Premium Pack, which consists of the Portrait 8.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose sound system, AUX and USB connectivity, finger tip controls and the Pure Vision LED headlights.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 275 hp and 280 Nm to the front wheels via a dual clutch EDC automatic gearbox. The Megane gets all round discs, with ABS, EBD, BA, ESC and HHA to further keep drivers safe.

For us here in Malaysia, there is a possibility that TC Euro Cars could introduce the all-new Megane some time in 2017, if they want to remain competitive here. If priced correctly with adequate equipment, the new Megane could potentially win some buyers over, we reckon. Australians are expected to pay about AUD 43,090 for the range-topping Renault Megane GT, which translate to about RM140,000 (before tax).
