2017 Mitsubishi Grand Lancer Launched for China and Taiwan Market [+video]

Despite Mitsubishi having previously said that they are going to discontinue the outgoing generation Lancer worldwide, in China and Taiwan market at least, the model is still around and has received a major update.

The new model is now called Grand Lancer and it is based on a heavily reworked platform of the outgoing generation Lancer. At the front, the grille, headlight surrounds and other elements of the bumper are finished in chrome and adopt the company’s Dynamic Shield design. The Grand Lancer also receives a new set of automatic LED headlights.

Along the sides, the Grand Lancer’s bold body lines immediately catch the eye as do the two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear meanwhile is also quite different than the outgoing Lancer with a set of new taillights that have a more complex design.

The interior has also been significantly reworked as well with an all-new dashboard design. Highlights include a 10.2-inch all-digital instrument panel, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a reverse camera, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system (optional) and dual zone automatic air conditioning.

The Grand Lancer is powered by a new inline 4-cylinder SOHC 1.8L MIVEC engine producing a total output of 140PS and 176Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a new INVECS-III CVT gearbox.

According to the regional driving cycle, the fuel economy of the 2017 Grand Lancer is a respectable 15.7 kilometers per liter, which is equivalent to 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers.

The Grand Lancer is also equipped with upgraded four-wheel independent MDSS sports suspension system, to provide better handling performance. The level of Noise Vibration and Harshness in the Grand Lancer has also been improved to for a comfortable driving experience.

In terms of safety, the Grand Lancer receives 6 airbags, Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control,  Hill Assist, Emergency Brake Warning System and ISOFIX child seats.
