China has continued to innovate ahead to solve their traffic woes with the introduction of their Automated Rail Rapid Transit, named ART, and was created by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. That may sound like another mass transit system but what is smart about this is that this train slash tram is driverless and doesn’t run on any physical tracks.
What? How does it work then?
The tram looking vehicle is considered a string of bus carriages which senses the lines on the road and also follow a virtual track. That is the main aim of the company to create a mass transit vehicle which can sense just painted lines on a road and it will be able to follow it.
This makes sense because in China there are lots of medium cities which don’t have enough funds to build expensive infrastructure related with metro lines or other light rail transit systems.

A 6.5km ART line will be built in the Chinese city of Zhuzhou and will start operations in 2018.
