Toyota’s flying car project not off to a great start

Toyota invested in a startup called Cartivator which aims to bring a flying car by 2020. Probably in time for the Tokyo Olympics I foresee. Cartivator consists of young engineers including some from Toyota as well and they started developing a flying car called “Sky Drive” back in 2014 through crowdfunding.

Check out the video below of their test flight.

Although the term flying car is used loosely, it still looks like a giant drone. Also, you can see that the flying car isn’t exactly done as it can only hold a flight for a couple of seconds. The team are working hard on fixing the issue. Compared to other players in the market, Kitty Hawk’s recent demo shows promise but it seems that the shape of a flying car isn’t that of the Delorean in Back to the Future but rather personal drones who can carry the payload of a person.

Cartivator hopes to commercial their flying cars by 2025.
