Ferrari clean sweep of Monaco amidst dodgy strategy

Sebastian Vettel took the victory ahead of Kimi Raikkonen as the two Ferrari cars triumphed in Monaco. This was the Scuderia’s 227th world championship win, the 44th of Seb’s career and his sixth with the Reds. Vettel now leads the championship with 129 points, while Kimi is fourth on 67. This was the 82nd one-two finish in the Scuderia’s history.

Although Raikkonen was ahead in qualifying, due to some controversial pit lane strategy, Sebastian came out of the pits earlier before Kimi causing Kimi to be second in a narrow street race where overtaking is somewhat difficult. Initial rumours going around was that Ferrari gave team orders to state that Vettel should have the lead in order to gain more championship points. In an interview, Sebastian Vettel says that he had the better pace hence the reason for his win and nothing to do with Ferrari’s pit strategy.

Monaco 2017 is the first race where Mercedes is not on the podium, Bottas came in 4th whilst Hamilton who had a horrifying qualifying ended up 7th, which is still an achievement considering he started 13th on the grid.

Pascal Wehrlein had an incident when his car turned sideways as he was hit by Jenson Button causing the safety car to be deployed. Initially, everyone held their breath as the car flipped sideways and crashed against the wall. A sigh of relief came when Pascal confirmed over the radio that he is ok.
