Daihatsu Ayla and Toyota Agya to receive new 1.2-litre engine in Indonesia, Perodua Axia possible?

The Daihatsu Ayla and Toyota Agya duo in Indonesia is expected to receive a new 1.2-litre engine in the coming weeks.

In fact, the boss of Astra Daihatsu Motor, Sudirman Maman Rusdi confirmed that the updated duo will be launched this year. KompasOtomotif has added that the new Agya and Ayla is expected to make a debut at the upcoming 2017 Indonesia International Motor Show in April.

The move won’t affect the current 1.0-litre Ayla and Agya, as the company is introducing the 1.2-litre variant as an additional model.

The source did not mention which 1.2-litre engine will be fitted to the Ayla and Agya, though we believe that the duo will receive the same engine that powers the Toyota Cayla and Daihatsu Sigra duo, which is a 1.2-litre 3NR-FE petrol engine that does 80 PS and 104 Nm.

Closer to home, could the Perodua Axia receive the same engine? We believe that is extremely unlikely, as the company does not have such an engine in their current lineup. Besides, Perodua recently updated the Axia with a new 1.0-litre 1KR-VE petrol engine that’s shared with the entry-level Bezza.
