While it is known that Proton will be launching several new models this year, not many are aware that Proton will also be rebadging a particular Suzuki MPV here.
The Suzuki Ertiga, when it arrives here, will be challenging the Perodua Alza and Toyota Avanza in the compact MPV segment. In terms size, the Suzuki Ertiga has a wheelbase of 2,740 mm, just 10 mm short of the Perodua Alza. Suzuki calls the Ertiga a LUV (Life Utility Vehicle).
Autonetzmag has mentioned that Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) will export completely knocked down kits (CKD) of the Ertiga from May 2016 onwards. Proton will be receiving 1,500 units of the CKD Ertiga per month.
This compact MPV from Suzuki is powered by a 1.4-litre K14B four-cylinder engine that pumps out 96 PS and 130 Nm. The sole transmission choice offered is a four-speed automatic. The Suzuki Ertiga, like the Perodua Alza, does not come with stability control or traction control, relying on just ABS, EBD and dual airbags.
