The Proton Saga replacement, codenamed P2-13A has been caught on the Elite Highway. This time, the test mule sheds some camouflage. compared to the last time we saw it.Proton_saga_r_spyshot_3

According to our friends at Funtasticko, this particular test appears to be using the same meter cluster as the outgoing Saga FLX, while the steering wheel appears to be lifted off the Preve. Then again, this being a development prototype, engineers could have taken these parts from the parts bin and fitted it on.

Curiously, compared to earlier spyshots, this particular mule does not come fitted with the rear fog light. It could indicate that there could be variants of the Saga that comes fitted with the fog light, likely for export.

While Proton continues to utilize the outgoing Saga’s platform for the next-generation model, we heard that much of the chassis has been strengthened, which should allow the new Saga to achieve the maximum 5 star in the Asean NCAP crash tests. The outgoing Saga only managed to score a paltry 3 stars in the said crash test.

In terms of design, it appears that Proton has fixed some design quirks of the outgoing Saga. The rear window glass appear to have a quarter glass, which meant that the window could potentially wind all the way down, which was not possible on the outgoing Saga.

Under the hood, expect to see the Proton Iriz’s 1.3-litre Campro VVT engine powering the new A-segment sedan. Buyers of the new Saga can expect to choose between a five-speed manual or a CVT. The new Saga, according to Funtasticko, could make a debut later this year.
