Before we get started, we would like to extend our gratitude to Funtasticko for allowing us to use these spy photos of the mysterious Daihatsu model.
One of Funtasticko’s readers caught these Daihatsu Move strapped onto a trailer on the NKVE, and thankfully for us, the top car was not covered properly, allowing us to catch a glimpse.
While this is purely speculations for now, it appears that Perodua could very well be working on a successor of the Perodua Kenari, which itself has been absent in the Malaysian market since 2009. When the Perodua Viva launched, it replaced the Kancil, Kenari and Kelisa. Perodua then replaced the Viva with the Axia.
It appears that Perodua could be using the latest Daihatsu Move as its platform, though we can expect Perodua to design its own body and interior. It is very unlikely that Perodua will utilize the Move’s 658 cc engine, instead, we believe that the Move could be powered by either the Axia’s 1.0-litre 1KR-DE engine or the Myvi’s 1.3-litre K3-VE. We heard that Perodua has ceased production of the Myvi 1.3 models, focusing instead on the 1.5-litre variants. Could the Kenari be positioned between the Axia and Myvi? We certainly believe so.
