Volkswagen India has announced that they will be launching a new compact sedan at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, called the Ameo.

The name Ameo was derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, which means “I love”. According to Volkswagen India, the Ameo will feature best-in-class safety features, build quality and driving experience.

The new compact sedan from Volkswagen will be sitting on the PQ25 platform, and will be made exclusively for the Indian market. The PQ25 platform is currently used by the Polo and Polo Sedan.

Buyers in India can expect to see the Volkswagen Ameo getting its power from a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre TDI, with the former developing 75 PS and 110 Nm, while the latter is good for 90 PS and 230 Nm. Both engines are said to be mated to a five-speed manual.

IndianAutosBlog reckons that the Volkswagen Ameo will carry over the Polo Sedan’s interior, including the multifunction steering wheel, 2-DIN infotainment system and automatic A/C. The Ameo is also said to feature twin airbags up front, ABS and EBD.
