All 29 outlets will feature both Proton and Suzuki logos, and though they are now part of Proton Edar outlets, these outlets will continue to serve existing Suzuki customers. This move will also allow existing Suzuki dealers to expand their business to include Proton models.

Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah, CEO of Proton said, “The industry is aware that Suzuki is going to end sales of its own brand models in the Malaysian market after the MoU and License Agreement were signed between the three parties, Proton, DRB-Hicom and Suzuki on 15 June 2015. The rationalization of SMA operations was originally expected to be completed within a year but it has progressed earlier than planned to realise the next phase of the partnership.

Suzuki is a brand that is strong for its expertise in smaller engined cars, especially cars in the A and B segment, which will complement Proton’s long range product plan. Suzuki has ceased production of vehicles in Malaysia, and as part of the MoU, Proton has access to Suzuki’s core technologies, including models, platforms and powertrains. Suzuki will then provide technical assistance for the products while it leverages on Proton’s local distribution and service network for its soon-to-be-launched rebranded cars.

Mr Masashi Fukuda, MD of Suzuki Malaysia Automobile said, “SMA is proud to have worked alongside and served out amazing partners and customers here in Malaysia over the past decade. The consolidation of Suzuki’s existing showrooms with Proton further strengthen the synergy between both brands.

Existing Suzuki owners can be rest assured as they can continue to enjoy after sales service and warranty coverage with the use of genuine Suzuki parts. Owners can still take their vehicles to these outlets for servicing.

Production of the new rebranded car is expected to start before the end of the year.
