For the past 2 years, Buzzword Events has been organizing bike rides on the most scenic routes in Sri Lanka. Many riders have been fortunate to experience this and to be the first ASEAN riders to crisscross Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has the perfect assets to host foreign riders because of its very good quality trunk roads, delicious food, exotic hotels and surreal locations. The riding culture in ASEAN (with 50,000 bikes above 1,000 cc) has been well developed over the last 30 years. There are numerous inter country rides covering all areas of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Brunei, Borneo, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam,” said Mr Leslie Tilak Jayawardena, Director and CEO of Buzzword Events based in Malaysia.

The planned route for the ride this year is Waskaduwa, Hikkaduwa, Galle, Embilipitiya, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Habarana, Pollonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Colombo.

We had the good fortune to meet some experienced Sri Lankan Big Bike owners from Motor Adventure Sports in 2015 and instantly hit it off. With like passions in riding, music, partying and safety education, it was easy to work together to promote and hopefully instil a new riding culture in Sri Lanka,” added Leslie.

The highlight of the week long ride will be on the last day when the “THUNDER ROAR” arrives in Colombo on Saturday 19 March 2016 to mingle and share handshakes and hugs with a thousand local Sri Lankan bikers from local Bike Clubs at the Independence Avenue.

We liked what Buzzword Events was doing for Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Tourism individually and indirectly by promoting this beautiful country to the biking community of ASEAN. We wanted to work with them and take it to the next level and that was how the idea of Colombo Bike Week was initiated,” said Mr Neil Hassim, CEO of Motor Adventure Sports (MAS).

We had also hosted 8 members of SEDARAH Motoring Club from Malaysia on a Recce Ride from 28 – 30 November 2015, to experience riding in Sri Lanka. The club has over 120 members in Malaysia and 7 other countries and we concluded it with a pre-publicity press conference to launch Colombo Bike week 2016,” added Mr Neil Hassim.

We are currently seeking corporate and government sponsorship to make this event a major success and to be part of the National Tourism Calendar. The Phuket Bike Week draws millions of tourism US Dollars to Thailand, and we hope to do the same for Sri Lanka. The media mileage both locally and internationally will be tremendous for Sri Lankan companies as there will also be 10 foreign journalists covering this event. We are willing to customise sponsorship opportunities to suit individual company needs,” concluded Mr Leslie Tilak.
