Volvo XC90 - 11

The winners of the 2016 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards were recently announced at the Detroit Auto Show, and you’ll never believe what took top honours…

Taking 2016 North American Car of the Year spot is the new Honda Civic, as it managed to surpass the other two finalists, the Chevrolet Malibu and the Mazda MX-5 by 22 and 57 points respectively.

“The all-new Civic was developed and is built in North America, making this North American Car of the Year win even sweeter”, said the Honda Division Senior VP and General Manager, Jeff Conrad.

The 2016 North American Truck of the Year on the other hand, went to the Volvo XC90 SUV, which was launched here recently. The Swedish SUV turned out to be more popular than the other two finalists, the Honda Pilot and the Nissan Titan XD, as it attracted the majority of the votes from the jury’s American and Canadian journalists.

“We are absolutely thrilled that the XC90 has won this prestigious and most respected award and there is a lot more to come. By 2019 Volvo will have a totally renewed product portfolio. By then the all-new XC90 will be the oldest car in the showroom”, stated Volvo Car USA’s CEO and President, Lex Kerssemakers.
