Perhaps the most ridiculed car on the internet, a brave Mazda MX5 has saved its owner from serious injuries when a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran a red light and T-boned the little red convertible.

Judging from the damage, it was very likely that the high-riding Jeep Grand Cherokee climbed the sides of the little Mazda MX5 before flipping.

Not sure about over my head. Based on where the Jeep was in the street, I think it drove up the side of my door to where the hood is popped up and flipped over the hood,” said Reddit user Pocher.

He escaped with minimal injuries, though he had to be taken to hospital. Part of the reason why he survived was also due to the additional roll cage, which did a remarkable job of holding the car in one piece.

No information was given in regards to the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s driver though.

Rest in peace now Mazda MX5, for you have served your owner well.

Remember folks, engineers spend hundreds of hours engineering cars so that they absorb the impact, spreading the force away from the occupants. Just because you see an accident vehicle badly mangled after an accident, the car has served its purpose, which is to protect the occupants. Spare a thought for the hardworking engineers in the background, who often do not receive enough credit for their hardwork.

Also, cars can be replaced, but not human lives.
