Looks like the Takata airbag recall won’t be slowing down any time soon, as Mazda has recalled a number of MY03 – MY08 Mazda 6, MY06 – MY07 MazdaSpeed 6 and MY04 RX-8 over faulty airbag inflators.

Like other affected cars, these affected Mazdas has a faulty Takata airbag inflator that could potentially rupture in an accident, which could send metal shrapnel at occupants. These metal shrapnel could injure or even kill passengers. The faulty Takata airbag inflators have killed 9 people globally, including one pregnant Malaysian woman, and injuring hundred worldwide.

Mazda North American Operations will notify and contact affected owners to replace the passenger’s frontal air bag with a new one, free of charge. However, a time frame was not provided by Mazda.

Bermaz has confirmed that there will be no recalls for Malaysian units. A few units of the Mazda RX-8 were affected, but Bermaz has contacted owners and rectified the issue.
