PSA: Klang Valley tolled highways to go fully cashless by end-2016

Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) Highway

All 21 tolled highways in the Klang Valley are expected to be fully electronic by the end of this year, the Association of Malaysian Highway Concessionaires announced.

The Association of Highway Concessionaires Malaysia (PSKLM) president Datuk Zainudin A Kadir said that going fully cashless would boost efficiency and comfort for all highway users, “At manual collection toll booths, an average of 360 collections can be made per hour compared to 1,000 collections via Smart Tag, and over 700 transactions using Touch n’ Go,” said Zainudin.

Despite the implementation of a fully-electronic toll payment system, Zainudin said that there would be no staff retrenchment as they would be redeployed to other divisions, including customer service, checking the system, and monitoring these toll plazas.

Zainuddin said 10 toll plazas on 4 highways, namely MEX, the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga) and Kemuning-Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA) will only accept electronic toll payment from January 13, 2016 onwards.

The toll plazas comprise 3 on MEX, namely the Salak Selatan Toll Plaza, Putrajaya Toll Plaza and Seri Kembangan Toll Plaza, 3 toll plazas along the NPE (PJS2, PJS5, and Pantai Dalam), 2 toll plazas on Grand Saga (Batu 9 and Batu 11) and 2 on LKSA (Seri Muda and Alam Impian).

The highway concessionaires involved would offer various incentives to consumers, including the distribution of 140,000 free Touch n’ Go cards, where users would only have to pay for a RM5 reload to receive the card.

Apart from that, there is also an offer for a new Smart Tag at RM99, if purchased with a reload of RM20, and a 10% rebate for Class 1 vehicles from Jan 13 to March 12 this year.
