Sitting on the company’s RMA platform, which is shared with the C-Class and S-Class, the new E-Class sports a more contemporary design as opposed to the sportier C-Class. Wheelbase has been increased by 65 mm, while the overall length has been stretched 43 mm, bringing the new E-Class’ length to 4,923 mm.

Elsewhere, Mercedes-Benz has dropped the drag coefficient (Cd) to just 0.23, which helps improve fuel economy. Drivers can choose from several damping modes, which includes a 15 mm lowered suspension for the Avantgarde, 15 mm lowered and stiffened sports suspension with adaptive dampers and the optional electronically-adjustable suspension.

The new W213 E-Class will be made available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The E220d will be receiving a new 2.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine with 195 PS as well as a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The W213 will also be getting a plug-in hybrid variant with a 2.0-litre four cylinder mated to an electric motor which will be called the E350e. Of course, the W213 range would not be complete without the range-topping AMG variant, which is expected to be powered by the company’s new 4.0-litre V8. All models will get the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission as standard, while all-wheel-drive will be available with selected engines.
