2016 Guangzhou Auto Show: BMW officiates 1-Series Sedan, China exclusive for now

At the ongoing 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show, BMW has officially unveiled the much-anticipated 1-Series Sedan, following a bunch of leaks and teaser shots.

Aimed squarely at the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA, the new BMW 1-Series Sedan is the company’s entry-level model that is aimed to attract new customers to the brand.

Underpinning the new BMW 1-Series Sedan is the company’s UKL platform, which is the base for the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer and 2-Series Active Tourer. The new 1-Series Sedan will draw its power from a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, mated to a six-speed manual or Steptronic automatic. The former outputs 100 kW and 220 Nm, while the latter does 141 kW and 280 Nm.

Visually, the BMW 1-Series Sedan features BMW’s signature twin kidney grille up front, with optional LED headlights, sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, heads-up display, rear camera and body-coloured side mirrors. Like its siblings, the BMW 1-Series Sedan can be optioned with various styling packages, which includes the M-Sport package.

The BMW design language continues inside, as the 1-Series Sedan gets an 8.8-inch central display, dual-zone air-conditioning, leather upholstery and customizable interior trimmings.
