A couple of months back during the 2016 My Auto Fest, Hyundai teased us with their first-ever hybrid, the Ioniq.

That time, there was no confirmation on whether the new model would be sold here. However, that is set to change as we have received word that the Ioniq will be making a debut here real soon!

Thanks to our friends at Automachi, we have spyshots of what appears to be a Hyundai Ioniq in Malaysia, albeit in left hand drive format.

As we’ve reported earlier, globally the Hyundai Ioniq is available in three variants, namely a hybrid, PHEV and EV. From what we gathered, the Hyundai Ioniq that’s destined for Malaysia will be of the hybrid variant, not the EV or PHEV variant. Powering the Ioniq Hybrid is a Kappa 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that outputs 103 hp and 146 Nm, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The powertrain is paired to an electric motor capable of 144 hp and 265 Nm, which allows the Ioniq to boast a fuel efficiency of 22.4 km/L.

Further specifications are scarce at the moment, but we can potentially expect the Hyundai Ioniq to be sold in the region of RM120,000, thanks to EEV incentives. Furthermore, the Ioniq could be Hyundai Sime Darby Motors’ first CKD hybrid model here.
