Proton has officially launched the 2016 Persona, priced from RM46,800 for the entry-level Standard to RM59,800 for the Premium.
The 2016 Proton Persona is powered by the same 1.6-litre Campro VVT that powers the Iriz, outputting 107 hp at 5,750 rpm and 150 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Persona can be had with a five-speed manual or a Punch-sourced CVT, though the former is limited to just the Standard trim.
Available in four trims, the entry-level Standard retails for RM46,800 for the manual variant, while the CVT-equipped one will cost RM49,800, while the Executive trim retails for RM55,800. Moving another level up is the Premium trim, with a price tag of RM59,800. Proton is also offering a Premium SE trim with a unique bodykit, which will add another RM1,000 on top of the Premium variant. All prices are OTR with insurance.
Standard equipment across all variants include ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TC), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), ISOFIX child seat mounts, Eco mode, manual height adjustable halogen headlights, rear foglights, bulb type rear lights and front and rear parking sensors. Brakes are ventilated discs up front with drums at the rear. Despite having rear drums, Proton says that the new combination allows the Persona to stop from 100 km/h in 41.4 meters, versus its predecessor’s 44.6 meters. Also impressive is the boot space, which is a healthy 510-litres, an increase of 80-litres over its predecessor.
First up is the Persona Standard. Here, the entry-level variant gets a set of 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 185/55R15 Silverstone Kruizer tyres, material colour power-adjustable side mirrors and door handles, two airbags, single-DIN head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, fabric seats, regular key start and height adjustable driver seat.
Moving one trim up is the Executive variant, which adds a pair of front foglights, rear boot lid spoiler, double-DIN head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, rear USB charging ports (1.5A and 2.1A), 60:40 split folding rear seats and fabric door inserts. The side mirrors and door handles are now body coloured.
Stepping one level above the Executive trim is the Premium variant. Similar to the Proton Iriz its based on, the Persona Premium gets leather upholstery, keyless entry with push start button, six airbags, an Android-based touchscreen system called Proton Infotainment System and power retractable side mirrors. The Premium variant also gets a set of silver alloy wheels, also in 15-inch size.
Last but not least is the Persona Premium SE. Here, the Premium SE gets a limited edition dual-tone body kit all round, though production is limited to just 200 units. Other features are identical to the Premium variant.
Proton is offering the Persona in six body colours, with Camelian Brown being the newest addition. Other colours include Cotton White, Sterling Silver, Midnight Black, Silver Moon Dust and Fire Red.
To further sweeten the deal, Proton is offering early buyers a 3-year free service program, inclusive of parts and labour. The offer is valid till 30 September 2016.
