Porsche stops 911 ad campaign featuring Muhammad Ali [+video]

Porsche 911

In respect of the recently deceased boxing legend Muhammad Ali, Porsche has stopped airing the television commercial for the new 911 featuring the prominent athlete.

Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3 and he was laid to rest Friday after a procession through his hometown of Louisville, Ky.

The commercial, titled Compete, features a young Ali boxing with himself in the ring and chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen playing against his main rival, himself. The commercial attempts to sell the idea that the upgraded 911 is the only car that can improve upon the model’s successful legacy.

The commercial was aired in December last year and during that time, Ali personally approved the commercial’s script before the advertising agency shot it. One of the boxing great’s former trainers also worked with the body double in the ad to make sure the actor’s movements looked like the legendarily swift heavyweight.

While the video commercial is no longer aired, it is still currently available on Porsche’s YouTube page, and you can watch it here.
