The 2016 Volkswagen Passat has been sighted at Volkswagen’s Pekan plant without camouflage, signalling that a launch could be just around the corner.

Volkswagen boss Armin Keller has confirmed that the Passat will be making a local debut some time this year, though no time frame was given. The German company will be assembling the Passat B8 at its Pekan plant, making Malaysia one of the first countries outside Germany to assemble the B8.

The B8 generation of the Volkswagen Passat was launched in November 2014 and sits on a stretched Volkswagen MQB platform. With the new Passat B8, Volkswagen aims to bring the Passat more upmarket with better built quality and better interior materials. The Passat B8 is available with eight engines, four petrol and four diesel. We should be getting a sole petrol engine, though final powertrain combinations are yet to be confirmed.
