26th Toyota Classics raises RM327k to bolster efforts to protect the environment

Audience of Toyota Classics 2015 were mesmerised by the harmonious music accompanied by graceful dancers

UMW Toyota Motor continued to play an active role as a responsible corporate citizen by raising RM 327,000 to bolster efforts to protect the environment.

The 26th Toyota Classics, an annual CSR event that fuses beautiful music and philanthropy, was well-received by a packed audience which took place at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP). Their generous spirit was duly rewarded as The Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre, a multi-award winning orchestra from Hungary, took the stage and inspired them with a harmonious performance.

The beneficiaries for this year are the Borneo Conservation Trust who received a Toyota Fortuner, while Malaysian Nature Society and World Wide Fund for Nature both received RM 77,000. Royal Guest of Honour, His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor, handed out the mock cheques to the NGOs on behalf of UMW Toyota Motor at the concert.

Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, said he was humbled by the generosity of the donors, “We would like to extend our gratitude to the various contributors from corporate companies as well as individual donors who have donated generously and towards this cause as we continue to fuse beautiful music and corporate social responsibility.”

“We have seen the good works done by these NGOs in preserving and conserving wildlife in Malaysia. Their unrelenting effort and commitment have impressed us, and we are happy to support their noble causes by channelling the proceeds from this year’s Toyota Classics so that they can continue protecting Malaysia’s wildlife,” said Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd.

Over the years, the Toyota Classics concerts in Malaysia have raised RM7.5 million to benefit 60 charitable and non-governmental organisations. Since its inception in 1990, Toyota Classics has held over 184 sell-out classical concerts in Asia, and raised approximately USD 7 million (RM26 million) over the last 25 years.
