Production Toyota S-FR spec leaked

Toyota S-FR concept (18)

As mentioned in our previous post, Toyota will officially revealed its S-FR entry-level sportscar at the end of this month at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.

While Toyota has yet to show us the concept in the flesh, we already have comprehensive information about the sub-GT86 model which is virtually ready to go into production.

The S-FR is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 engine taken from the JDM-spec Corolla, but further tweaked and with direct injection. The motor will be capable of putting out 130 PS and 148 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels exclusively through a 6-speed Aisin manual gearbox. Keep in mind that these specs will place Toyota’s new compact sports coupe directly against the latest Mazda MX-5 which also uses a 1.5-litre petrol in its cheapest form.

The production-ready Toyota S-FR will reportedly weigh 980 kg and will benefit from double wishbone front & rear suspension. Just like the concept, the production version will be 3990 mm long, 1695 mm wide and 1320 mm tall, with a 2480 mm wheelbase.

There’s no word about a launch date but the estimated price in Japan is expected to be $12.5k including tax – $10k cheaper than the latest Mazda MX-5 sold in Japan.
