“We would like to thank fellow Malaysians who came by to support us despite the unpredictable weather. We got very encouraging number of visitors on Saturday as the weather was better, but on Sunday morning as the haze got bad, the numbers were low. However, by noon and the API reading improved, we saw more number of visitors to the carnival. We can’t thank everyone enough for the support and the media played an important role too by giving us due publicity on what we have at the carnival,” said Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Proton.

“Last year when we first did the Alami Proton carnival, our intention was to allow the public to see our technical capabilities, to highlight the vendors that supply us our parts and to encourage the public to understand and perhaps appreciate the talented local engineers and designers that we have in Proton. We wanted people to see for themselves that everything is done here in Proton by Malaysians for Malaysians and the developments done in our extensive Research and Development (R&D) facilities, one of the only automotive R&D in ASEAN. I believe we have achieved that goal last year,” Dato’ Harith added.

“This year, we return with similar goals for more people to experience what Proton is all about, and we are thankful to fellow Malaysians that came to Alami Proton 2015 in support of Proton despite the discouraging weather. Of course, we gave out face masks to all visitors to Alami Proton 2015 and we are happy that they are able to enjoy themselves with the activities within our plant compound,” Dato’ Harith added further.

For the 2-day carnival which took place on 3 and 4 October 2015, the entire facilities at Proton’s headquarters in Centre of Excellence (COE) and its R&D building and production plant in Shah Alam were open to the general public.

The facilities were transformed into a carnival area where activities held targeted all age groups and families. The carnival attracted huge crowds at the main area; R&D building where there was a showcase of the Proton Pick Up concept and the evolution of Proton Perdana; and gymkhana area where visitors were able to go enjoy the rides with Proton’s Motorsports professional race drivers and also experience a few rounds at the test track.
