Facelifted Toyota Avanza officially launched in Indonesia

After much spyshots and leaked information, the facelifted Toyota Avanza has been officially launched by PT Toyota Astra Motor in Indonesia. The facelift brings along a host of new features to the affordable family MPV.

The front end of the Avanza receives a huge makeover, which now features a large front grille, similar to the current Toyota models. Design is similar for both the 1.3- and 1.5-litre variants, but the latter variant gets projector headlights and a different grille design. While both variants do feature front foglights, the garnish on the higher grade 1.5-litre gets a chrome surround for that added premium feel. Also standard for both variants is the inclusion of alloy wheels.

As for the interior, Toyota has updated the dashboard of the 1.5 variant with a new black tone colour. The instrument cluster on the 1.5 has also been revised, which now features a blue and white illumination plus an Eco indicator, while the 1.3 variant gets a red and white combination instrument cluster. The Avanza also gets a new 6.1-inch touchscreen audio system with Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity.

For the second row seats, they now feature a one touch tumble system, and the middle seat on the second row now gets a three-point seat belt. Toyota has also improve the cabin insulation on the new Avanza.

Powering the new Avanza is a pair of new Dual-VVTi engines, with capacities ranging from 1.3- to 1.5-litre. The 1.3-litre variant sees an increase of 5.5 PS, now with 96.5 PS at 6,000 rpm. Torque figures has also increased, now with 121 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre variant sees a minor bump in power to 104 PS at 6,000 rpm. Torque remains the same at 136 Nm, coming in at 4,200 rpm.

Indonesian customers will have to cough out IDR 204.2 million (RM60,645.81 before excise duties & tax) for the base 1.3 manual variant, while the range-topping 1.5 automatic will cost IDR 226.9 million (RM67,379.34 before excise duties & tax).

Malaysian debut could happen later this year, once Toyota’s plant in Indonesia has increased production to cater to their local needs.
