Just a few days ago, the Toyota Motor Cooperation issued a safety recall of approximately 625,000 hybrid vehicles globally, that involved the Prius a (alpha), Prius v, Prius + and Auris Hybrid.
According to the Japanese automaker, the problem was linked to the software that controls a power converter, where in limited instances, the hybrid system might shut down while the vehicle is being driven, resulting in the loss of power, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Toyota added that no accidents or injuries had been reported so far but vehicle owners will be notified to have their hybrid vehicles’ software updated free of charge.
Despite this global recall, UMW Toyota Motors, the official importer and distributor of Toyota cars in Malaysia has clarified that the Prius models that have been and are being sold by the company are not affected by this recall.
