By now, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is no stranger to us. The initial leak on 18 March showed us roughly how Toyota’s new SUV could look like, then the next leak on 26 March gave us a look of the rear end, as well as some specifications. This time, the Fortuner has been caught without any disguise!

Boasting styling cues from recent Toyota models, the new Fortuner certainly looks more upmarket than its predecessor. With its sharp styling up front, all the way to the rear, it certainly can be passed off as a Lexus SUV as well.

The new Fortuner rides on the same platform as the new Hilux, while the interior is certainly more plush than the Hilux sibling. Leather seats and faux wood panels seems to be used in abundance in the Fortuner’s interior, while the three rows of seats allows up to seven passengers.

As mentioned earlier, the Fortuner will come with a total of four engines. Starting at the bottom is the Fortuner 2.2G 2WD MT, which has a starting price of 1,184,000 Baht (~RM133,000 before tax). Moving one grade up is the Fortuner 2.2V 2WD AT, with a price of 1,264,000 Baht (~RM142,000 before tax). The third variant is the Fortuner 2.4V 2WD AT Navi, which is said to retail for 1,318,000 Baht (~RM148,000 before tax). That is the sole 2.4-litre variant in the line up of the new Toyota Fortuner. The fourth variant of the new Fortuner is the 2.8V 2WD AT Navi that will cost 1,408,000 Baht (~RM159,000 before tax). If buyers are keen on the 4WD models, Toyota will be offering 2 variants with 4WD, the first being the Fortuner 2.8V AT 4WD, which according to the leaked price, will cost 1,472,000 Baht (~RM166,000 before tax). The range topping Toyota Fortuner 3.2V AT 4WD TRD Sportivo will cost 1,632,000 Baht (~RM184,000 before tax).
