Honda Malaysia extends airbag recall update to an additional 46,710 units of vehicles

Honda Malaysia today announced a recall update for another 46,710 units of Honda vehicles. This extension involves 26,186 units of vehicles which include City (2008-2009 YM), Civic (2007-2009 YM), CR-V (2007-2008 YM) and Jazz (2007 & 2009 YM). These models are affected by the front passenger airbag inflator.

There are also 20,524 units of Accord (2003–2007 YM) which are affected by the driver front airbag inflator. However, all current selling models are not affected by this recall.

Following the recent recall for 87,182 units of Honda cars, the amount of cars being recalled by Honda Malaysia comes to a total of 133, 892 units to date.

According to the automaker, this recall is to replace the driver and passenger airbag inflators with newly produced inflators for all affected models. The company is taking this proactive measure to ensure customer safety and deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to all customers.

As of today, there were no crashes or injuries related to this issue reported in Malaysia. Nonetheless, Honda Malaysia will be informing all affected customers via notification letters which will include details of the product update. Customers who receive these letters are advised to send their vehicles to the nearest authorized Honda dealer for inspection.

The replacement works will be carried out once the parts are ready, and the costs of parts and labour will be borne by the company.
