V8 supercars to rock KL City Grand Prix in August [+video]

KL City Grand Prix

At the inaugural KL City Grand Prix racing event that is scheduled to happen on 7,8,9 August this year, spectators can anticipate Australia’s premier motor racing series, V8 Supercars, to hold a special competitive exhibition race.

V8 Supercars has signed a 4-year agreement to stage a Championship round on the streets of our nation’s capital until 2019.

As a curtain raiser, V8 Supercars will stage a 5-car street exhibition race featuring Red Bull Racing Australia’s Craig Lowndes, Wilson Security Racing GRM’s Scott McLaughlin, Prodrive Racing Australia’s Chaz Mostert, Erebus Motorsport’s Will Davison and Nissan Motorsport’s Todd Kelly.

The August event is the test bed for future KL City Grands Prix with organisers to formalise the deal with V8 Supercars following its completion.

For those who don’t know, the KL City Grand Prix will be staged in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, a 3.2km circuit with 16 corners that pass through the city’s most famous streets as well as iconic landmarks, including the Petronas Twin Towers.

The FIA approved KL City Grand Prix circuit is a tight street track similar to those of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, Castrol Gold Coast 600 in Australia, and of course the infamous street-circuit of the Macau Grand Prix. There are fast sweeping turn combinations and significant elevation change on Jalan Sultan Ismail, a tight run through Jalan Perak and significant overtaking opportunities such as the bottom of Jalan Ampang make the KL City Grand Prix Circuit not only exciting but FIA compliant, approved and safe.

Apart from V8 Supercars, it already has the confirmed participation of Formula Masters, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Cup, Audi R8 LMS Cup and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia for the KL City Grand Prix. And just in case you wanted to know what the V8 Supercars race is like, check out this video below:
