Sepang International Circuit’s first ever Motorsport Free Morning programme had a good start, with almost 1,300 registered cyclists, runners, skaters and skateboarders. Everyone enjoyed the chance to conquer the 5.543km track in the free session.

SIC Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Razlan Razali said, “It was an amazing turnout this morning at the inaugural SIC Motorsport Free Morning – a response that has really heartened the SIC team who worked to make the event possible. The event was truly for everyone. It wasn’t just cyclists, runners, skaters and skateboarders, we even had families pushing babies in strollers and disabled participants in handcycles.

On the same day, booths from various SIC partners and event sponsors were present, like M7 Drive, 100PLUS, Rudy Project, Bike Tech Subang and Mobile Book Café.

Initially we were expecting about 500 participants, but looking at the turnout of almost 1,300 people and the level of public enthusiasm, it just goes to show that more and more Malaysians are adopting a healthy lifestyle and are looking for unique opportunities that allow them to work up a sweat and spend quality time together. Being the first time we have opened the track for a public event like this, there is certainly room for improvement. We very much appreciate all the constructive feedback received – which includes the request for longer hours and services such as bike rentals, all of which we will consider and adopt where feasible,” added Dato’ Razlan.

Dato’ Razlan also hosted a preview session of the Motorsport Free Morning on the 21st of May 2015, which was specially organized for a few athletes, including Ironman Malaysia triathlon finishers Rupert Chen, Fendy Ahmad and Steve Lumley, Manila SEA Games gold medallist in cycling Sayuti Zahit and Singapore SEA Games-bound triathlete Wilson Lee.

SIC plans to run the Motorsport-Free Morning every month, with the next run slated to be in June. Those interested can check out SIC’s official Facebook page or visit SIC’s website for more information.
