Does a Pedestrian Detection System really work? [+video]

Padestrian Safety Test

When it comes to Active Safety technology, some cars offer a Pedestrian Detection system that is able to detect pedestrians and automatically applies the brakes if the driver is not paying attention. But does it really works in real life situations? Shouldn’t at least some parts of actual ‘driving’ still be left to the driver?

German magazine Auto Motor Sport has put together this independent test where they gathered a bunch of cars with Pedestrian Detection systems, to prove if this technology is as reliable as what the manufacturer claims.

There are six cars involved in the test including VW Up!, Nissan Qashqai, MINI Cooper S, Subaru Outback, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo V60. Just to entice you just a little bit, out of six cars, surprisingly, only one managed to stop in time and not send that dummy to the ER, but which one would you say won this test?

Could it be the Mercedes-Benz W205 C-Class? or the Volvo V60? Maybe it was the affordable VW Up!. You’ll just have to watch the video and find out for yourself!
