It has been indicated that Yamaha’s latest entry level sports bike, the YZF-R25, may be priced in the range of RM 20,000 and no more than RM 25,000 when it finally arrives here!
Exactly a week ago, pricing for East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak) was said to be set at RM24,000. Typically, prices of motorcycles in East Malaysia is RM3,000 more than Peninsular Malaysia.
However, just earlier this week, a member of the YZF-R25 Malaysia Owner Group on Facebook, Tiger Hau shared that the price for Pen. Malaysia starts from RM 21,000 not inclusive of road tax, insurance, etc. It is also said that the bikes will be widely available at dealers from the second week of April onwards and the colour options are white-blue and white-red, it is unsure if the full-black option would be available in our market.
If the price that is shared by the two members is indeed true, the main competitor, which is the Kawasaki Ninja 250R may lose out in sales aspect as it costs approximately RM 25,000 on-the-road, cash. Not to mention that the YZF-R25 performs better on paper.
Nevertheless, I really want the YZF-R25 myself badly due to its really affordable pricing and performance but if Hong Leong Yamaha does not bring in the ABS unit which is due to launch in Japan in April, I will be picking up the KTM 690 SMC R instead.
