2015 Bangkok International Motor Show: Ford officially unveils new Ranger!

Ford has just taken the wraps off the new Ranger, their best-selling pickup truck in our region. We were at the global debut of the new Ford Ranger, and here’s our coverage.

The new Ford Ranger has a completely new front end, as well as a revised and more stylish interior. The new trapezoid grille takes centre-stage of the new Ranger, and has a pair of new projector headlights for that bold, imposing looks.

Moving inside, the new Ford Ranger boasts an interior that is even more car-like than its predecessor, with a central eight-inch touchscreen in the dashboard. Also new is the dual-TFT LCD display that replaces the conventional meter cluster for better visibility and premium feel.

“The interior of the new Ranger is sleek and modern, with a strong technical aspect to it,” continued Dewitt. “Accentuating the design, we’ve chosen materials that are stylish and attractive while being durable enough to handle the harsh life of a work truck. The interior may look more car-like, but it’s as practical as ever.”

Boasting a ground clearance of 230 mm, the new Ford Ranger can wade through up to 800 mm of water with ease. The Ford Ranger can also has a 28-degree approach angle and 25-degree departure angle for tackling steep terrains.

Under the hood, the new Ford Ranger sports a new 3.2-liter Duratorq five-cylinder TDCi turbodiesel engine with a revised exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that aids fuel economy by up to 18%. The new 3.2-litre Duratorq can pump out 147 kW of power and 470 Nm of torque. Depending on market, Ford also offers a new 2.2-litre Duratorq four-cylinder TDCi turbodiesel engine with either 118 kW of power and 385 Nm of torque and a high efficiency 96 kW variant with 330 Nm of torque. Ford will also be offering their long-serving 2.5-litre Duratec petrol engine with 122 kW of power and 225 Nm of torque.

To further improve fuel efficiency, the new Ford Ranger will also feature Automatic Start/Stop Technology. The availability of the Automatic Start/Stop Technology is said to improve fuel economy by up to 3.5%.
