Electric Cars helping to keep cities cooler?

BMW_i8-001

Imagine if all the cars in the city were running on electric motors. Perhaps that one day may be possible in the future. Scientists recently came up with a report that if a city were to only consist of electric cars, there might be benefits.

As electric cars do not produce as much heat as normal combustion vehicles, the overall heat of the city can be reduce especially where there are traffic jams occurring everyday. According to the report, the average heat emitted by an electric vehicle per mile was about 19.8% of that by a combustion vehicle.

The data source and procedure of reasoning and estimating are presented. CVs, conventional vehicles; EVs, electric vehicles; HII, heat island intensity.

Besides just the benefit of having an overall lower temperature, that could also mean offices, buildings and homes around the city would require less power to power their air conditioner. Of course this is based on theory.
