Renault to introduce new 7-seat SUV to replace the Koleos Crossover

Renault Koleos

Renault recently announced that an even larger seven-seater designed to take on the X-Trail, is currently under development and will likely replace the Koleos Crossover.

Speaking to Auto Express, Renault’s senior vice president of marketing Michael Van der Sande said that while Renault also have a new range-topper SUV called Espace, this new D-segment crossover is mainly for Asian markets, where it will replace the Koleos, and where currently there is no Espace in Asia. It will be sportier, it will be younger than the Espace. This will likely means that it might arrive in Malaysia when it is expected to appear in 2017.

The new seven-seater SUV will probably continue the naming strategy established on the Captur and Kadjar so there’s a fairly high chance the name will begin with a C or a K.  It won’t sit on top of the range as Renault will slot the new model below the Espace which will remain their range-topper.

The CMF platform produced by the Renault-Nissan alliance already underpins a range of crossover models such as the Qashqai, Kadjar and X-Trail, and is expected to serve as a basis for Renault’s seven-seater, too. That means the 130bhp 1.6-litre diesel offered in the X-Trail (overseas) will be offered in the new Crossover too. As with its Japanese cousin, the seven-seat configuration is expected to be a cost option.
