Fast & Furious releases behind-the-scenes ‘parachute’ car stunt [+video]

Fast and Furious 7

The highlight of the Fast and Furious 7‘s trailers is a sequence where the characters drive out of a moving airplane, and the cars parachute down thousands of feet above the road. Many think that the whole scene is filmed on a big green screen and it is mostly computer graphics. But then….

But when the Fast and Furious filmmakers released a behind-the-scenes video that shows what the crew did, you’ll be shocked to find out that they actually drop the cars from an airborne Lockheed C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft, along with several camera crews, but no, the actors weren’t in the driver seat. But they pretty much threw everyone else out of a perfectly good aircraft….

According to stunt coordinators Andy and Jack Gill, the cars were hurled off the airplane at around 12,000 feet with the parachutes opening at about 5,000 feet. Three ‘flying’ cameras and a helicopter captured shots of the vehicles, as they were free-falling at a speed of around  209 to 225 km/h.
