China still selling first-gen Mazda6 alongside second and third gens

Believe it or not, Mazda is still selling the first generation Mazda6 in China and for the 2015 model year it has received a massive price cut.

Local joint venture FAW-Mazda began producing the first “6” back in 2003 and it’s still on sale today at a starting price of 129,800 yuan (about RM76, 519) whereas the 2014 model year kicked off at 164,800 yuan (about RM97, 152). With this huge price reduction, the first generation Mazda6 will likely be phased out soon.

Until then, it will be sold alongside the second generation Mazda6 called “Ruiyi” and the third-gen commercialized as the Mazda6 “Atenza“. All three of them are locally manufactured by FAW-Mazda and the first-gen Mazda6 can be had only with a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine developing 145 bhp and 183 Nm of torque. Power is channeled to the wheels through either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
