Continental launches two new tyres with enhanced wet-weather performance

Dunlop Formula D05 and SP Sport J5 launch (4)

Specifically for the Malaysian market, Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTPJ) has officially launched its two latest passenger car tyres that cater to our tropical climate, in particular the crazy rainstorms we get here, in the form of the Dunlop Formula D05 and the Dunlop SP Sport J5.

According to the Mr Sim Wee Chung, National Sales Manager of CTPJ, “Travelling in the rain can be a nerve-wracking experience, a tyre with superior wet weather traction can be a big safety benefit for drivers who need to travel at speed in wet conditions. Both our Dunlop new lines are 100% engineered with German Technology and designed with Malaysian road conditions in mind.”

Unlike regular tyres, the ‘wiper-block’ design on the Dunlop Formula D05 increases the road contact area. The Edge-Effect reduces the water-film between the tyre and road edges which act as a wiper, ensuring excellent braking performances especially on wet roads. Its advanced Silica Compound Technology on the other hand, accommodates a wider range of operating temperatures compared to its predecessor, the Dunlop Formula D01. Enhanced grip tread compound also achieves better traction in wet conditions. The 4 equally distributed wide longitudinal grooves on the tyre accelerate water evacuation and equalize the water dispersion rate. As a result, the Dunlop Formula D05 can deliver the best grip of the tyres to the road surface in even the wettest conditions.

When it comes to purchasing the tyres, consumers would also prefer tyres that contribute towards better fuel economy. This is where the Dunlop SP Sport J5 comes in handy. It was developed with a new generation full silica compound, which results in very high wet grip and improved rolling resistance. With this feature, drivers can enjoy maximum driving pleasure and fuel economy, without compromising safety.

The new edge tie-bar design on the Dunlop SP Sport J5, working in tandem with a water dam mechanism, creates high-velocity water dispersing, delivering the best grip to the road surface. On top of that, the optimised number of sipes and grooves on the tyre also enhance its water wiping effect while maintaining a large contact area, ensuring excellent braking performance on a wet road.

The most intriguing feature of both tyres are the Sun & Rain indicator that will warn you to change your tyres as it gets worn down. This reduces the hassle of checking the remaining tread depth of tyres manually. There are two ‘cloud’ and ‘sun’ symbols (representing wet and dry respectively) located on the thread and it will disappear gradually as the tyre wears down. This also indicates that your tyre will no longer have optimum grip and performances as before.

The Dunlop Formula D05 line has 28 different sizes and aspect ratios ranging from 15-inch to 18-inch, and is targeted for performance vehicles, while the SP Sport J5 which has 17 sizes ranging from 12-inch to 15-inch is the comfort tyre. These 2 lines cover more than 90% of the total passenger car tyre needs of the Malaysian market. Both of these tyres are now available at more than 839 outlets across Malaysia including Continental Best Drive, Continental Stores, Dunlop Klinikar and Viking Stores.
