In the foreseeable future, carbon-fibre may be more accessible and more affordable than what it is currently, and Ford is behind that. The new Ford GT is only the beginning of high-volume manufacturing of carbon-fibre.

Jim deVries, the Ford Global Manager of Materials and Manufacturing Research said, “This opportunity builds upon Ford’s current joint development agreement with Dow Chemical and accelerates our timeline to introduce carbon fiber composites into high-volume applications.”

Ford Motor Company will be teaming up with DowAksa to work on ways to mass manufacture carbon-fibre. They have also established the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation. This move will ensure that carbon-fibre will be used more extensively than before. This also means that future Ford models, when used with extensive carbon-fibre, will be lighter and safer than its rivals. The other manufacturer to use carbon-fibre extensively on their models is BMW.
