Honda ending CR-Z sales in Australia

Honda CR-Z (3)

Has the CR-Z lost its popularity in the Land Down Under? Apparently, the company has announced that they are no longer taking orders in Australia for the slow-selling CR-Z. As a result, you can no longer place an order in Australia for the hybrid hot-hatchback but you might be lucky enough to buy one of the remaining units although the stock is almost depleted.

According to Honda Australia, sales of the CR-Z peaked at 370 units in its first full year on sale (2012) but plummeted to just 58 units in 2013 following a range restructure that saw its entry price rise to $38,490 (RM110,914).

The overall sales crept up to 86 units last year (2014), though that figure included 34 unit of sales in July when dealers were encouraged to clear ageing stock.

Australia isn’t the only country facing a price increase for the CR-Z. Closer to home, as the hybrid incentives have been lifted from the government at the end of last year, and the CR-Z hybrid saw a price increase to a whopping RM183,000 in Malaysia. We’re not sure if this model will also face its death knell here anytime in the near future, but we’ll find out sooner or later.
