BYD Company Ltd has just announced their latest hybrid SUV, the Tang. This is a Dual Mode Electric SUV and it went on sale from 21 January 2015.

Under the Tang’s hood, a conventional 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, capable of 205 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. If that wasn’t enough, BYD stuffed in a pair of electric motors, each good for 150 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Combined output is a total of 505 hp and a total of 720 Nm of twist. Paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the BYD Tang can spring from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

The BYD Tang gets its name from the Tang Dynasty, known throughout the world as the most prosperous of all the great Chinese Dynasties. It will retail for RMB300,000, before hybrid incentives. Despite all its power and performance, the BYD Tang sips only 2 litres per 100km.
