Volkswagen Golf R 400 ready for production…be afraid, be very afraid.

Is the standard 290 hp Volkswagen Golf R not hot enough for you? Perhaps you want something with a little bit more power without sacrificing practicality? Look no further, as Volkswagen has just the solution for you, in the form of the new Volkswagen Golf R 400.

Teased as a concept car during the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year, the Golf R 400 has finally been given the green light for mass production. Let’s take a closer look.

As mentioned in the earlier article, the Golf R 400 will feature a 2.0 L TSI engine, good for between 400 – 414 bhp, giving it a good advantage over the regular Golf R (which we reviewed here). Torque wise, the Golf R 400 is expected to make about 450 Nm of it, from just 2,400 rpm. All these horses will be transferred via Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system to all four wheels, not just the front wheels. Performance wise, the Golf R 400 will be more than a hot hatch, with the century sprint being completed in just 3.9 seconds. This can potentially shame supercars like the Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 (4.0 seconds).

Other than that, the car will be built along regular production line as other Golf models, so upgrades are mostly limited to better brakes and new aerodynamic bits, while the track remains the same as the standard Golf R. The Golf R 400 wont be over the top in terms of looks, and will feature a new spoiler and additional front splitters.

VW_Golf_R_400-10Car Magazine UK has mentioned that the Volkswagen Golf R 400 will make a global debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in September. No word on local availability or price as yet; VW Group Malaysia, pretty please?
